Bangalore Life Science Cluster (BLiSC) Mourns the Passing of Ratan Tata, a Visionary Leader and Generous Patron

In a solemn moment of reflection and gratitude, we Bangalore Life Science Cluster, extend our deepest condolences for the loss of Mr. Ratan Tata, a visionary leader whose steadfast support has been instrumental in shaping the growth and success of our institutes. Mr. Tata's commitment to scientific excellence has left an indelible mark on BLiSc and the broader scientific community.

"As Chair of the TIFR Management Council, Mr. Ratan Tata played a crucial role in the establishment and continued development of NCBS, guiding it towards becoming one of the best institutes for biological research globally", says Prof. LS Shashidhara, Director, NCBS. "Mr Tata's leadership and belief in the power of scientific inquiry have inspired generations of researchers".

Further extending his commitment to leveraging science for societal benefit, Mr. Tata was instrumental in the establishment of the Tata Institute for Genetics and Society (TIGS). Under his guidance, TIGS emerged as a platform dedicated to harnessing advanced biological knowledge and techniques, with a keen focus on affordability, and equity in food, nutrition, and health. His foresight in integrating TIGS within BLiSC campus has significantly enriched the diversity and scope of research, fostering an environment of collaboration and innovation.

Mr. Tata's contributions to the scientific community are immeasurable. His legacy lives on not only in the institutions he helped build, but, also in the countless lives touched by his vision of a better world through science. All faculty, staff and students of NCBS, TIGS, inStem and C-CAMP (constituent members of the Bengaluru Life Science Cluster) extend their heartfelt condolences to Mr. Tata's family, friends, and colleagues during this time of loss.
