Prof Gita Chadha conferred the Laadli Media and Advertising Award for Gender Sensitivity 2025

Sociologist Gita Chadha has been conferred with the Laadli Media and Advertising Award for Gender Sensitivity 2025 for the series "Gender in/of Science: Feminist Conversations Part 1", produced with the NCBS Communications Team as part of her work as the Obaid Siddiqi Chair in the History and Culture of Science at the Archives at NCBS.

The series features conversations with six women PIs at NCBS: R. Sowdhamini, Deepa Agashe, Gaiti Hasan, Uma Ramakrishnan, Vatsala Thirumalai, and Hiyaa Ghosh.

The jury appreciated the series "for initiating vital, intellectually rich dialogues on gender and science that challenge stereotypes and foreground women's voices in knowledge-making" and described it as "an illuminating series that explores the intersections of gender, power, and knowledge in science, bringing feminist thought into a field that often sidelines it. The conversations are rigorous yet accessible, expanding the discourse on what it means to create inclusive scientific spaces."

The 15th edition of the Regional Laadli Media and Advertising Awards for Gender Sensitivity 2025 received 715 submissions from across the country in 13 languages, spanning print, electronic, and digital media. Digital platforms led in the number of entries, followed by print, and then radio and television. From the north, south, east, and west, voices from every corner of India contributed stories that matter. After shortlisting 630 entries, the jury held 28 spirited sessions and finally selected 63 winners and special mentions—each showcasing nuanced, sophisticated, and deeply sensitive storytelling.

This is one of the rare times when an academic research organisation has received the honour.
