NCBS remembers Krishnan

Professor K.S. Krishnan, friend and inspiration to generations of students and youthful scientists, passed away following a sudden heart attack on Saturday 24 May 2014 at his home in Bangalore. With his demise, we have lost one of our most inspirational biologists. Krishnan's fundamental impact was the ease with which he repeatedly linked his questions with the most innovative solutions. Krishnan was an inventor par excellence, and an institution himself, without the boundaries of disciplines and egos.

Selfless and generous in all he did, he made friends all over the world, accepting all our rough edges, dealing with us with loveable and unique quirks of his own. His sudden and premature passing empties us all. Yet, his presence, everywhere on our campus and all over India, from Arunachal to Kanyakumari, will remain and his style of science must inspire our future.

Krishnan's passion  for science and life were celebrated through a memorial at NCBS on the  6th of June.

I was saddened to learn of Krishnan's demise. I vividly recall the (sadly few) interactions I had with him while visiting NCBS - in particular, I can picture him describing his seaside search for molluscs in relation to his quest for ion channel blockers. I wish I had gotten to known him better. Condolences to those dear to him.

We have lost an excellent scientist. Dr. Krishnan was a very nice and always helpful person. His contributions to science will be remembered for a long-long time.
