What is a Max Planck Partner Group?
Max Planck Partner Groups support outstanding early-career researchers who, after completing a research stay at a Max Planck Institute (MPI), continue their work at a research institution or university—preferably in their home country. These groups foster long-term collaborations on innovative and promising scientific topics of mutual interest to both the MPI and the partner institution. Each group is established for up to five years, promoting global research excellence and young scientist development.
What does this appointment mean for Dr. Redkar?
I am extremely humbled to receive this distinction for my lab. I look forward to closely collaborating with Prof. Caroline Gutjahr’s Department on Root Biology and Symbiosis at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology, Golm. Together, we aim to uncover mechanisms regulating compatibility in fungal root associations. It’s a joy to share this news with my team, and we are excited to embark on this scientific journey with new leads.
What does Dr. Redkar’s lab aim to achieve through this project?
Our goal is to understand how fungi establish associations with plant roots and whether filamentous pathogens—known for causing systemic root infections—interfere with symbiotic signaling, leading to contrasting plant-fungal interaction outcomes. This partnership with the Gutjahr lab will grant us access to state-of-the-art research facilities at MPI and allow us to combine our expertise to explore the hidden signaling mechanisms shaping these interactions.
