The National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS) congratulates its scientific board member, Eve Marder, on being one of the recipients of the Kavli Prize in Neuroscience for 2016.

To commemorate the occasion, NCBS has created an institutional archive. The NCBS Archives will work closely with the TIFR Archives to become a vital resource centre for historical research on NCBS. The Archives  also aims to serve as a hub for dialogue on the history of research in the biological sciences in India

His expertise lies in the field of developmental genetics, specifically in understanding how developmental signals influence basic cellular mechanisms to control morphogenesis.

Latest research from the National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS), Bangalore, gives us new insights into how Orai proteins are regulated. Researcher Bipan Kumar Deb from Gaiti Hasan's group has discovered that the protein Septin 7 guards Orai function by acting as a 'molecular brake' to Orai activation.

Prof. Madan Rao, who has been an adjunct professor with the National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS) for more than 15 years, has recently been appointed as a full-time faculty member at the Centre.

In a recent study in the journal Nature Communications, researchers find that large-seeded tree species which depend on big animals for seed dispersal, grow to greater sizes as adults and thus have higher carbon storage potential than species with smaller seeds in tropical forests worldwide.
