Nicely put by Dr. Vijayraghavan that the theme of Dr. Siddiqui's vision was to encourage and take forth quality science by "refusing to compromise on quality in the interests of speed". The success of NCBS bears testimony to the fact that Indian institutes could be world class if we don't get bogged down by the pressures of "hurried productivity" - a wonderful teaching of Dr. Obaid Siddiqui. We are sad on losing such a mentor; but we are content that the place that he founded is prospering under the guidance of the likes of Dr. Vijayraghavan, Dr. Satyajit Mayor and other quality researchers.
