Just a couple of weeks after we joined the M.Sc Wildlife course the famed Dr George Schaller visited NCBS. We were introduced and requested to ask him a few questions. Kullu started, and pointing out that Dr Schaller was an avid mountaineer, he asked him if he came across a beautiful peak in the mountains, and at the same time spotted some wildlife, would he be able to bring himself to ignore the urge to climb the peak and focus on the wildlife instead? At the time that Kullu asked this question, I have no doubt that the peak held more allure to Kullu than the wildlife. I am sure things have changed since then, although mountains still must hold the warm memory of first love! Divya Karnad
