It is shocking to learn that great molecular biologist of the country Prof. Obaid Siddiqui is no more. In him we have lost a mentor, an institute builder and pioneer researcher. I recall his excellent lecture " Olfaction in Drosophila" delivered as the Chief Guest of the IX Annual Conference of the Indian Academy of Neurosciences at Lucknow, March 16-18, 1990 at Industrial Toxicology Research Centre (ITRC). We all are going to miss him but his research contributions and institutions he built will always inspire us to work. I offer my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family
